Marble and its brief characteristics

Marble is a metamorphic rock, which arises from the transformation of limestone or dolomite. It is composed mainly of crystalline calcite or dolomite. It was often used in ancient times and was always considered as a valuable material not only as an architectural piece, but also sculptural. It is now produced exclusively using special cutting devices. It is a fragile material which can crack easily, therefore it cannot be acquired with the use of explosives. Moreover, the marble waste or cracked materials can be used for the production of terrazzo and marble chips.

Most marbles come from Italy and Croatia, but they can be also mined and produced in Poland, mainly in the Sudetenland, the Holy Cross Mountains and Sławniowice. This material has a streak texture and light pastel shades that fit into almost any interior. It may exist in various colours – greenish, blue, pink, cream, etc. This in turn creates a massive field for interior design.

Advantages of marble and its application

Marble may not be as tough and durable as granite, but has a lot of advantages that differentiate it from other products. First of all, it is very impressive and highly decorative, and its texture in strips makes it looks very original and unique. It suits other materials perfectly, eg. Glass or stainless steel, so it is certainly suitable for use in a modern setting. It is very easy to process. You can easily cut and to give it any shape. Its grinding and polishing to a high gloss also doesnt cause any issues.

It looks great on large surfaces. In addition, it is resistant to erosion and high temperatures. From here you can do stairs, floors or decorative sculpture. Just remember that it requires regular impregnation which in the long term extends its durability, strength and general resistance to acids and abrasion. Unfortunately, they are not suitable for outdoor use, because harsh weather conditions can quickly ruin its shine and unique look. However, they will find themselves perfectly in any interiors!
